Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.
I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.
Workstation
16” MacBook Pro, M2 Max 96GB RAM
Beast of a machine. Easily the best machine that I have ever used.
Dell UltraSharp 49 inch curved Monitor
At first I thought the monitor was slightly ostentatious, but now I am a believer! I love the extra screen real estate and the fact that I can have four windows side by side without having to use a second monitor. Your peers will hate it when you screen-share on Zoom 🤣.
LG 32UN880-B 32 Inch UltraFine™
I only use this monitor to put in of my auxillary development tools, but it does the job well.
Logitech MX Master 3
Every year that a new one comes out I grab it. I may or may not have a backup one in my bag as well 👨🏾💻.
Apple Magic Trackpad
I think I am the only person that uses the trackpad and physical mouse, but I love the trackpad for all the gestures 🤷🏾♂️.
Herman Miller Aeron Chair
If I am going to be sitting at my desk for 8+ hours a day, I want the best chair I can get, and Herman Miller is the best imo.
IKEA IDÅSEN standing desk
Even though it is an IKEA desk, just its sheer size makes it worth the cost.
Development tools
Visual Studio Code
Is there anything else?
iTerm2
At this point with the level of customization that I have done, it does not even look like the same application anymore.
Productivity
Raycast
I use Raycast for everything. It's like Alfred, but better. It is also free right now!
Fantastical
Fantastical is best calendar app I have ever used.
SavvyCal
Great tool for scheduling meetings while protecting my calendar and making sure I still have lots of time for deep work during the week.
Focus
Simple tool for blocking distracting websites when I need to just do the work and get some momentum going.
